Asia Cup 2023: PCB ditches Sri Lanka ODI series after SLC’s Asia betrayal

Sri Lanka’s Decision to Host Asia Cup 2023 Angers PCB

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s (SLC) announcement that it plans to host the entire Asia Cup 2023 has caused ire among the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Reportedly, the PCB has now refused an offer to play an ODI bilateral series in the island nation.

PCB’s Hybrid Model Ignored

Sources from the PCB have indicated that the ‘Hybrid Model’ proposed by Najam Sethi, which would have seen four games take place in Pakistan, was overlooked by SLC. This, along with the SLC’s decision to host the entire Asia Cup 2023, has resulted in a deterioration of the relations between the two organisations.

ODI Series Rejected

A PCB source has revealed that the PCB turned down a proposal from the Lankans to play a few One-Day Internationals next month in Sri Lanka. The two sides are due to meet in July to play two Tests as part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Conclusion

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s decision to host the entire Asia Cup 2023 has caused tension between the PCB and SLC. This was evidenced by the rejection of the offer to play a few ODIs in Sri Lanka next month. The two sides are still due to meet in July for two Tests.
