India’s Record in ICC Events Since 2013
It has been nearly a decade since India won an ICC event in 2013, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Since then, India have participated in eight global events, yet have been unable to secure a victory. The upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia on July 11th, is the ninth ICC event for India and the first in 2023. Skipper Rohit Sharma has a golden opportunity to join the ranks of Dhoni and Kapil Dev, by winning the WTC Final against Australia.
Kapil Dev: India’s First ICC Trophy Winner
Kapil Dev was the first Indian captain to win an ICC event, back in 1983. After a 28 year wait, Dhoni and his team won the Cricket World Cup in 2011. Prior to this, Dhoni had also won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, giving him a hat-trick of ICC trophies. If Rohit Sharma is able to lead India to victory in the WTC Final, he will become the third Indian captain to win a global event.

India had a chance to make it to the WTC Final in 2021-22, but were unfortunately defeated by New Zealand in a eight-wicket loss.
