Big win for BCCI as SLC, BCB & Afghanistan shoot down PCB’s Asia Cup hybrid model

Asia Cup 2023: BCCI Wins as PCB’s Hybrid Model Rejected

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has secured a major win as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lost all support in Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket, and Afghanistan Cricket have all declined PCB’s proposal of a Hybrid Model. Consequently, if the Asia Cup takes place, it will only be held at a neutral venue, most likely in Sri Lanka.

PCB’s Proposal for Hybrid Model

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi had initially received backing from all three boards, except for BCCI. The Hybrid Model would have seen Pakistan host four matches, while the rest of the matches, including the Final, would be played in Sri Lanka or the UAE.

BCCI’s Refusal to Approve Model

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council, refused to approve the model. As a result, PCB slowly lost its support from the other boards.

Conclusion

If the tournament goes ahead, it will be held at a neutral venue. However, the future of Asia Cup 2023 remains uncertain.
