Big win for BCCI as SLC, BCB & ACB shoot down PCB’s Asia Cup hybrid model

Asia Cup 2023: PCB Loses Support in Major Win for BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has achieved a major victory, as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s dream of a Hybrid Model for the Asia Cup 2023 has been shot down by Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket and Afghanistan Cricket. Consequently, if the tournament does go ahead, it is likely to take place at a neutral venue, with Sri Lanka being the preferred choice.

PCB’s Proposed Model

Najam Sethi, PCB’s chief, had initially received the backing of all three boards, with the exception of BCCI. According to the proposed model, Pakistan would have hosted four matches, while the remaining matches involving India, as well as the Final, would have been played in either Sri Lanka or the UAE.

BCCI’s Refusal to Approve Model

However, with Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary and head of Asian Cricket Council, refusing to approve the model, PCB gradually lost the support of the other boards. This has resulted in the tournament being moved to a neutral venue, should it go ahead.

Conclusion

In a major win for the BCCI, PCB’s plan for the Asia Cup 2023 has been completely quashed. If the tournament is to take place, it will be at a neutral venue, with Sri Lanka being the most likely choice.
