Big win for BCCI as SLC, BCB & ACB shoot down PCB’s Asia Cup hybrid model

Asia Cup 2023: BCCI Triumphs as PCB’s Dream of Hybrid Model is Shot Down

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has achieved a major victory as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been deprived of all support in the Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket, and Afghanistan Cricket have collectively denied PCB’s dream of the Hybrid Model. If the Asia Cup does take place, it will be conducted in a neutral venue, most likely in Sri Lanka. The BCCI was resolute in its decision to move the Asia Cup away from Pakistan.

PCB’s Proposal Initially Met with Support from All Three Boards

When PCB chairman Najam Sethi proposed his model, it was met with approval from all three boards, excluding the BCCI. According to the plan, Pakistan would have hosted four games, while India and the final would have been conducted in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates.

BCCI Secreatry Jay Shah Refuses to Approve Model, Support for PCB Wanes

The refusal of BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council, to sanction the model meant that the PCB gradually lost its support.

Conclusion

Should the tournament go ahead, it will be held in a neutral location. The BCCI’s steadfast stance has resulted in the PCB’s Hybrid Model being shot down, leaving the future of the Asia Cup 2023 uncertain.
