Just hours before the unveiling of the World Cup 2023 Schedule, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have decided to make a last-minute change in venue. The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata will now host one of the semifinals, while the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host the other. Initially, the plan was to have the semis in either Mumbai, Chennai or Bengaluru. The WC 2023 Schedule will be announced tomorrow.

As per a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI has made the decision to allot a semifinal to the East Zone. A BCCI source told PTI on Monday that Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Kolkata’s Eden Gardens are two likely venues for the World Cup semis. Chennai was also in the running, but it appears that Eden Gardens is slightly ahead now.

Chennai Loses Out Due To Rainy November

Chennai was the other favorite if India were to qualify for the semifinals. The spin-heavy conditions would have been beneficial for India. However, the possibility of rain in November is one of the reasons why Chennai lost out.
