BCCI makes U-Turn on Asian Games 2023; agrees to send men, women cricket teams

BCCI to Send Teams for Asian Games 2023

After initially citing prior obligations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to send both men’s and women’s teams to the Asian Games 2023. The game will be played in the T20 format.

Men’s Team to be B Squad

Due to the main team’s involvement in the 50-over World Cup, which is being held in India, the men’s team will be a B squad, according to The Indian Express. The best women’s team will be competing at the Asiad.

Schedule of Events

The Asian Games are set to take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China, and the ICC World Cup will run from October 5 to November 23.

India’s Participation in Previous Asian Games

In the 2010 and 2014 Asiads, cricket was played, but India did not enter a team. The event was not included in the 2018 Asiad in Jakar.

Cricket Added to Hangzhou Games Schedule

Cricket has been added to the Hangzhou Games, which were initially scheduled for last year but were postponed due to China’s zero-Covid policy. Before June 30, the BCCI will submit a list of players to the Indian Olympic Association.
