The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has promoted the upcoming Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) set to be held from the 15th of June and the six teams involved have received a record franchisee fee of 57.80 crores. Even the prices of the icon players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) could not compete with the MPL’s figures.

Transparent Process for Ownership Acquisition

MCA President, Mr. Rohit Pawar, stated that 20 corporate and business houses took part in the auction for the six teams, with the base price for the three-year period set at Rs 1 crore. He expressed his delight at the record-breaking figure of 57.80 crores, which was much higher than their expectations of Rs 18 crore. He also mentioned that the process of acquiring ownership was completely transparent, using an open bid system.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Secured by Pune Franchisee

The Pune franchisee was able to secure Ruturaj Gaikwad, one of the most sought-after players in the MPL, for a price of Rs 1500.
