Asia Cup 2023: BCCI’s Major Win as PCB Loses Support
In a major win for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s dream of hosting the Asia Cup 2023 through a Hybrid Model has been shot down by Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket and Afghanistan Cricket. This means that if the tournament does go ahead, it will be held at a neutral venue, likely in Sri Lanka.
PCB’s Initial Support
At the start, PCB chief Najam Sethi had received support from all three boards, except BCCI. The proposed model had Pakistan hosting four matches, with India and the Final to be held in Sri Lanka or the UAE.
BCCI Refusal to Approve Model
However, with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council, refusing to approve the model, PCB gradually lost its support.
Conclusion
Should the Asia Cup go ahead, it will do so at a neutral venue. Nevertheless, the question remains as to whether the tournament will actually take place.
