BCCI Wins Major Victory as PCB Loses Support for Asia Cup 2023
In a major victory for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lost all support for the Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket and Afghanistan Cricket have all shot down PCB’s proposed ‘Hybrid Model’. As a result, if the Asia Cup goes ahead, it will be played at a neutral venue, likely in Sri Lanka.
PCB’s Proposed Model
PCB Chairman Najam Sethi had initially gained support from all three boards, excluding the BCCI. In the proposed model, Pakistan would have hosted four matches, while India and the Final would have been played in Sri Lanka or the UAE.
BCCI Refuses to Approve Model
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council, refused to approve the model. As a result, the PCB slowly lost its support.
Asia Cup to be Played at Neutral Venue
Now, if the tournament goes ahead, it will be played at a neutral venue.
Conclusion
The BCCI has won a major victory as the PCB has lost all support from the other Asian cricket boards for the Asia Cup 2023. If the tournament goes ahead, it will be played at a neutral venue, likely in Sri Lanka.
