Big win for BCCI as SLC, BCB & Afghanistan shoot down PCB’s Asia Cup hybrid model

BCCI Wins Major Victory as PCB Loses Support for Asia Cup 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has achieved a major victory after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lost all support in Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka Cricket, Bangladesh Cricket and Afghanistan Cricket have all rejected PCB’s proposed “Hybrid Model” for the tournament. As a result, if the Asia Cup goes ahead, it will likely be hosted at a neutral venue, likely Sri Lanka.

BCCI Refused to Approve PCB’s Model

PCB chief Najam Sethi had initially received support from all three boards, apart from the BCCI. The proposed model would have had Pakistan host four matches, with the rest of the matches involving India and the Final played in Sri Lanka or the UAE. However, with BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is also the head of Asian Cricket Council, refusing to approve the model, PCB saw its support dwindle.

Conclusion

The BCCI’s refusal to approve the PCB’s model has resulted in a major victory for the board. If the Asia Cup does go ahead, it will be hosted at a neutral venue, with Sri Lanka the most likely option.
