IPL 2024 Auction to be Held in Late December
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL 2024 Auction will take place in late December, but not on Christmas Eve. This is due to the fact that many foreign coaching staff will not be available during the holiday season, as well as the difficulty of finding suitable accommodation. The auction is also set to clash with the India tour of South Africa, which commences on December 10th.
Avoiding Logistical Problems
A BCCI official has stated that the board is looking to pick a date and venue that is comfortable for all teams involved. This is in an attempt to avoid the logistical problems that arose last year when the IPL 2023 Auction was held in Kochi on December 23rd. At the time, there were difficulties in finalising a hotel, and the likes of Ricky Ponting were present virtually.
Conclusion
The BCCI are keen to avoid any dates close to Christmas due to the potential logistical concerns. As for the venue, this is yet to be confirmed. However, the board is looking to pick a date and location that is comfortable for all teams.
